Choosing the right size for your Umbrella:
  • What's Your Shade Size? Time to Measure! The diameter of your patio umbrella is one of the most important factors in determining the correct weight of your umbrella stand. Bigger umbrellas require heavier bases to hold them up!
  • What's Your Pole Width? Many people are not aware that umbrella poles differ in size. The most popular patio umbrella pole size is 1.5 in diameter, but pole sizes can range anywhere from 1 1/8 to 3 depending on the type and size you order. When you purchase your outdoor umbrella is important to know this measurement in order to purchase the correct umbrella stand. Also, don't forget that patio tables have varying umbrella hole sizes so make sure you know all of the information before you purchase.
  • Will Your Umbrella Stand Alone or Accompany a Table? If your umbrella will be freestanding it is better to get a heavier stand. If your outdoor patio umbrella will be placed through tables, you can follow the minimum umbrella base size suggestions.
Ready to Choose Your Base:
  • 20 lb. Base- This base weight would be used for smaller umbrellas, most likely standing through a table. Think under 6' Umbrellas
  • 30 lb. Base- Recommended to use for umbrellas up to 6.5' when standing through a table.
  • 40 lb. Base- Should be the minumum weight for free standing umbrellas up to 4.5'. Recommended for umbrellas in a table up to 7.5'.
  • 50 lb. Base- Recommended for use with up to 7.5' free standing umbrella. Great for larger umbrellas through table- up to 9'.
  • 70 lb. Base & Up- Perfect for all free standing umbrellas 6' to 11' and up!

Umbrella base
I purchased this umbrella base about 3 weeks ago. We put it on the end of our dock at our cabin up north. We have been very pleased with this purchase. It appears very well made, is quite sturdy (at 75 lbs) and best of all, it has wheels that lock, so it can be moved to a different spot quite easily.
